Sight fishing at Tantangara

When I arrived at Tantangara and this was what the weather looked like sight fishing on days like this can be epic. I decided to use my Hardy Wraith 5wt the hype about this magnificent fly rod is all true so light but very powerful just a dream to cast. Wraith is a Scottish dialectal word for “ghost”, “spirit”.

After 4 hours of sight fishing 1 sighted and it was landed my expectation were very high when I got there but it was clear after the weekend of perfect weather other anglers had been there before me and the wind had just swung around enough to stop blowing the food onto the water .

As you can see the condition were in the Trout’s favour but the challenge of sight fishing is like that the lake is also dropping but the massive hatches of Midge make up for that
